Wood's Cycad

Wood's Cycad (Macrozamia johnsonii) is a critically endangered plant native to southwestern Australia. Its distinctive palm-like appearance includes a stout trunk and long, feathery leaves. This ancient cycad boasts deep green foliage with individual leaflets arranged along a central axis. It thrives in specific habitats within Western Australia, often found in sandy soils and shrublands. Unfortunately, urban development and overcollection by plant enthusiasts have pushed this species to the brink of extinction in the wild. Conservation efforts include cultivating Wood's Cycad in botanical gardens to ensure its survival and to preserve a living relic of Earth's botanical history.
